Meeting Minutes

The following is the Minutes of SIAP Board of Directors

Meeting No. 6
Location: Colorado Community Room

Members present:

Agenda:

1.    Discuss the already established Committees and their activities
2.    Updating SIAP mailing list

Items discussed:

1- Each committee should become active toward their goals and each head of the committee should submit the committee’s mission statement.  Each committee during this year has to have at least one presentation in relation to their goal.  The committee members have to contact the event organizer to schedule their lecture date.

2- So far SIAP has gained good reputation among public entities like City and County offices.  SIAP members should be encouraged to participate in more cultural events and introduce SIAP to AIA and American Architects.

One way to achieve this goal, AIA committee is trying to combine SIAP and AIA meetings 

3- Mohammad Behboodi suggested to include other professionals like Civil and MEP engineers in SIAP.  The other members explained that this approach would deviate from scope and direction of SIAP and having too many interests will not work.

SIAP members should invite artists and encourage them to participate in SIAP events.

4- SIAP should try to invite the Iranian Architects who live outside this area and sometimes visit Los Angeles, to lecture for SIAP.

5- Different ways to introduce and gain reputation for SIAP are suggested as per following:

- Participation in National competitions under the SIAP name

- organizing design competitions and awarding the best designs

- improving the website

6- A committee should be formed to concentrate in finding the national competition.  Pari had offered to be in charge of that committee. 

7- One project SIAP can suggest or be involved in is a cultural center for Iranians in Southern California.  SIAP should reach out to different groups and organizations to fund this cultural center.  SIAP can start the programming of this cultural center  until funding is provided.

8- SIAP shall look into finding a more attractive place to have their weekly and or monthly meetings.

9- For next Nowruz, SIAP can ask its members to design a greeting card and the winner’s card shall be sent to all members as Nowruz card via e-mail.

10- The website committee should continue their meetings and make progress in how the website should look and its format.

11- The "BY LAW" Committee has been formed and is ready for volunteers to sign up.

12- Ashraf stated that the Nowruz income and expenses are to be revised.  She will inform Mahshid with the final numbers to be distributed for the revision of the Nowruz budget memo.

13- Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday May 6, 2010
