SIAP Committees 2011 and 2012
Society of Iranian Architects and Planners is a nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation. In order to satisfy its objectives, it conducts its activities and programs through various committees. Each committee is responsible for carrying out the specific duties assigned to it by the Board of Directors. These committees and activities are as follows:
1- Website Committee and Technology
a. Operates the organization website. Its activities include making regular updates to the website, especially setting up of the new website, and coordinating with website designer who is currently working on the new site.
b. Meetings are once a month and it is directed by head of the website committee.
c. Webpage such as postings of upcoming events, publication of members list and projects, pertinent links and news and other current event releases.
2- Event Committee
a. Organizes regular seminars, lectures and other presentational events for the once a month Thursday night events.
b. Organizes for member tours of architectural projects and coordination with other organizations such as the AIA or other related local architecture organizations and architecture firms, and trade shows.
3- Education Committee
a. Organizes weekly sessions for licensing and exam preparation for the members, such as NCARB and LEED certification.
b. Open discussions about new and emerging design criteria and review of existing and new codes.
c. Cooperates with event committees, when there is a presentation which all members can benefit from.
4- Bylaw Committee
a. This committee meets regularly to discuss and clarify vague interpretations of SIAP Bylaws according to SIAP charter and presenting them to SIAP Board and General Assembly for final approvals.
5- Research Committee
a. Investigates issues of interest closely related to art and architecture, and providing researched materials for Event Committee to present at SIAP events.
6- Membership Committee:
a. This committee manages all related business to SIAP membership including receiving membership fees, propose and organize member’s benefits, listing members, and categorizing members according to SIAP Bylaws.
b. Increasing the number of SIAP members is the paramount task of this committee.
7- Sketch Committee-
a. This committee meets once a month at different locations for members who are interested in sketching and learning from others new methods of drawings.
8- Nowroz Committee-
a. The main purpose of this committee is to gather mainly 5 months before the Iranian Nourouz celebration in order to organize and arrange the SIAP Nowrouz event.

c. Venue setup and rental
9- Outreach Committee-
a. The main purpose for this committee is to arrange for connections with other organizations like the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
b. The committee will keep up to date filling of applications for SIAP member attendees to receive AIA Learning Units from AIA.
10- Technology Committee-
a. Software: introducing new software pertaining to architectural usage, which members would benefit from.
b. Schedule events with software companies that want to introduce their programs (Autodesk Revit etc) and present to events committee for approval.
11- Design Award Committee
a. Objective: to promote SIAP members through recognition of their work within the Iranian community and public as a whole.
b. Process: invite every SIAP member to submit his or her works for Design Award competition, in one or two categories. Select or elect a jury team from SIAP members or prominent architects within the professional community.
c. Announce and publicize the award winner to public using all different media available and post the Award winner project on home page of SIAP website.
