Years ago I talked to Mr.Daryoush Ashoory who proposed the word GOFTMAAN to FARHANGESTAN-E-IRAN as a translation for DISCOURSE about the pronunciation and the spelling of the word. He believed it must have been pronounced GOFTMAAN not GOFTEMAAM, no E sound in the word.
